Following initial stints in the forest products industry and management consulting Robert (Bob) Connochie joined Rio Algom Limited, at the time a subsidiary of Rio Tinto Zinc one of the world’s largest mining companies.
Over the next several years Mr. Connochie assumed increasing responsibility for strategic planning, economic and financial evaluations and acquisitions. He also worked closely with the Exploration, Engineering and Marketing Departments. Several major acquisitions were completed. These ranged from mineral development properties to companies operating in both the mining and industrial sectors. A joint venture was negotiated that resulted in more than doubling the life of a major Rio Algom subsidiary.
Following its acquisition by Rio Algom, Mr. Connochie served as President of a Canadian potash producer. He guided this company during a particularly difficult time in the industry, successfully dealing with a number of technical, operating, marketing and regulatory issues.
In 1995 Mr. Connochie began consulting as an independent advisor, practicing exclusively within the mining industry. In 2005 he entered an association with Behre Dolbear and Company, Inc. and became President of a wholly-owned subsidiary;-Behre Dolbear Capital, Inc.
Mr. Connochie has served as a Director and Chairman of a number of industry
associations. In addition he has served on the Boards of a number of mining
companies, both public and private.
He currently sits on two corporate boards. Mr. Connochie holds a B.A.Sc.
in Civil Engineering from the University of British Columbia, B.A.Sc. in
civil Engineering and an MBA from the University of Western Ontario.
